Constantinople – Istanbul – Turkey

Detailed view of Constantinople, the Hagia Sophia in the center is surrounded by churches, obelisks and columns. In the foreground the harbor with a sailing ship. Mentioned in the text as well as depicted in the views is the horrible thunderstorm on the 12th of July 1490, which devastated the city. Most of the columns where destroyed, over 800 houses burned down and more than 3000 people died. Verso two coloured woodcuts, one with a portrait of pope Alexander VI. and the other with a depiction of the incineration of infidels.
