America

"Tableau des principaux Peuples de l'Amerique” -  "A chart of the most important peoples of America”

Groups of peoples (numbered and described) dressed in their old native costumes, in the background of each group a typical landscape of their region. The engraving is surrounded by a narrow pictorial border. Very fine engraving with aquatint and delicate water colour.
Grasset de Saint-Sauveur skilfully wove together several dozen individual scenes from various sources, a human tapestry of the different continents and regions. Artist: Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur (1757-1810). Engraver: Félix Mixelle Jeune (1763–1837). Printer and publisher: Georges Malbeste (1754-1843). Paris, 1798/99
