World map – Two Hemispheres

Title: „Orbis terrarum typus de integro in plurimis emendatus auctus et icunculis illustratus.“

A rare example of a bible world map based on the Visscher bible map from 1657 (Shirley, Mapping of the World, 401/414). This map is a bit larger in size and the coastlines of Australia and New Zealand are shown on the map. A double-hemisphere world with two solar charts and two small celestial charts, surrounded by allegorical representations of the continents.

Cartographer: Nicholaes Visscher – J. Detleffsen, published in a German Bible printed in Minden, 1716

Print size: 31,8 cm x 47,9 cm

Copper engraving in very good condition, smoothed vertical fold, professional restored small tear in the bottom margin, verso with text: „Kurze und klare Verzeichnis der Landschaften der Welt…“, altogether a very fine impression of this rare world map.
