Vincenco Coronelli (1650-1718), was a monk of the Conventual Franciscans in Venice and was later appointed as Father General of the Franciscan order. He founded the first geographical society “Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti” in 1680. He was a well-known cosmographer, cartographer and publisher especially famous for his atlases and globes.
