Elegant Spanish folding fan by José Colomina

Front: Biblical scene. The painting is framed with golden ornaments and flowers. At the right signature by J. Colomina (José Colomina) a well known Spanish fan maker.

Back: Costal landscape of the Mediterranean sea with a harbored merchant ship. People carrying goods to the harbor, some others resting at barrels. This atmospheric painting is framed by golden ornaments and flowers.

The leaf is made of swan skin and is painted on both sides with gouache technique. Fan´s skeleton made of mother of pearl with exquisitely carved and engraved flower tendrils. On the middle sticks: The Coat of Arms of Spain. Rivet decorated with polished stones. Original etui (used).

Span width: 45 cm

Date: Spain around 1830/50

Provenance: Present to princess Maria del Pilar of Bavaria (1891 -1987).
