Japan - Shunga painting
Lying courtly lovers enjoy the sexual act. The lady, with closed eyes, has long hair, the nobleman above her is wearing an eboshi cap, his splendid yellow kimono (shibori fabric) has slided down partly.
Very fine painting in the ukiyo-e style of the Tosa province, with tender outlines and fine details skilfully painted on paper with ink, mineral colours, gofun and some gold and mica. Old mounting on silver dotted paper. Some creases and folds due to its age, some tiny paper damages, just a few spots, otherwise good condition.
Japan, Edo period, 18th century
