Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892)

The brave warrior Hatakeyama Shigetada (1164-1205) on horseback in his last battle on the banks of the river Futamatagawa, already badly wounded by the arrows of his enemies who wanted to kill him for his alleged disloyalty to Hôjô Tokimasa.

Very good impression, excellent colour, with lustre printing added to the bloodstains. Full margins, unbacked. Excellent condition. From the only slightly later high-quality edition printed by Tsunashima Kamekichi from the original blocks, with a two-colour cartouche (!). Rare also in this edition.
