Size: Large folio, 55.5 x 39.5 cm. With the original wooden cedarwood-veneered slipcase carrying the title "Sôsaku Hanga" in Kanji, 59 x 42 cm.

54 pages of text, 10 numbered and hand-signed prints, limited to 510 copies each, eight of them being (colour) woodblock prints and two katazome prints, each in original matting. Three-coloured original cloth binding with gilt title on spine and front cover.

Splendid 20th century artist's book with ten original modern Sôsaku Hanga prints by important artists, presented here individually by James A. Michener, the famous US writer and passionate collector of Japanese woodblock prints.

Printed on Kyokushi paper specially handmade and watermarked for this edition. The typesetting and the printing blocks of the prints were destroyed after printing. The colophon is hand-signed by James A. Michener. An excellently preserved copy. Also in the collection of the Portland Museum of Art, 2004.39 a-k (with all prints)

A standard edition of this title with reproduced images of the prints was published only in 1968 by Tuttle.
