Tsuchiya Kôitsu (1870-1949)

A snowy winter day on the grounds of Sensôji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo, which is also known as Asakusa Kannon (or Kanzeon) or Kinryûzan Temple. In the foreground, under the big lantern at the entrance to the temple’s main hall, two pigeons in search of food.

Title: Asakusa Kanzeon

Signature: Kôitsu. Seal: Shin

Publisher: Baba Nobuhiko, Tokyo (Hanken shôyû Baba Nobuhiko)

Date: Shôwa 13 (1938)

Format: Vertical Ôban, 36,2 x 23,8 cm (image)

Early impression, with the second dove on the floor of the porch. Good impression with excellent colours. One of the printing blocks for the grey shadings is partly misprinted in the central and right area, without significantly affecting the overall appearance. Paper minimally age-toned, verso in three corners and side margins some remnants of former mounting,  and at the very upper left margin paper from verso a little brownish. Overall nice condition of this atmospheric and very rare print.
