Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858)

The huge torii of the shrine of Itsukushima (aka Miyajima) at high tide, surrounded by adorned ships at a shrine festival.

Title: Aki - Itsukushima - Sairei no zu (Aki Province - Itsukushima – A view of the celebration).

Series: (Dai Nihon) Rokujû-yoshû meisho-zue (Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces).

Signature: Hiroshige hitsu

Original Japanese colour woodblock print. Size: Vertical Ôban, 34.2 x 23 cm (image).

Excellent impression and colours, with strongly visible wood-grain and good bokashi gradation at the horizon and top. Unbacked. Left margin partly trimmed, bottom margin trimmed very close to the black border line. Overall very nice and crisp condition.
