Ishiwata Kôitsu (1897-1987)
A quiet street scene at evening glow in the harbour town Chôshi in Chiba Prefecture.
Title: (Hakubo) Chôshi-machi Imamiya-dori (Imamiya street in Chôshi at dusk)
Publisher: Watanabe, Tokyo (round 6 mm seal)
Date: Shôwa 7 (1932)
Original Japanese colour woodblock print. Size: Vertical Ôban, 24 x 36,1 cm (image)
Nice impression with excellent colours. From a little later edition from the original blocks (c. 1946-57). Paper minimally age-toned, at lower margin a light printer’s stain. A tiny pinhole in each of the margin corners. Overall very nice condition of this very atmospheric scene. Probably the best known image by the artist.
