Ogi - large Japanese folding fan - Two peacocks in mountain landscape

This beautiful Japanese folding fan has watercolour paintings on both sides.

Front: peacock couple in between blooming peonies and a pine tree, in the background a mountain landscape.

Back: Butterflies flying on top of peonies, winches and chrysanthemums.

Leaf is made of paper with watercolour paintings on both sides. Fan´s skeleton made of ivory, the 24 sticks with overlapping golden lacquer painting showing butterflies, peonies and clematis vines. The wide guard sticks are decorated with birds and floral ornaments made of red and golden lacquer. Inlays are made of carved mother of pearl. Rivet made of brass colouerd metal attached to it is an ivory coloured silken string with an oval ojime and two tassels.

Date: Meiji, around 1870/75

Exquisite handy craft, slight signs of age, bit tanned altogether in very fine condition.
