Title: Full Moon, Hawaii (handwritten in pencil in lower left margin)

Signature: Toshi Yoshida (hand signed in pencil in lower right margin

Seal: Yoshida in (shirushi), hand seal

Date: 1954 (handwritten)

Original Japanese colour woodblock print. Size: Vertical Ôban, 25 x 37.7 cm (image)

Excellent impression and colours, with strong embossing of the outlines. Paper slightly age-toned, verso small glue stains (not bleeding through) in margin corners from previous attachment. In top margin two usual small drying holes. Overall very nice condition.

Rare sôsaku print by the artist, with distinct relationship to a group of compositions from 1952-54 with rhythmized white, "negative" outlines, showing his increasing interest in figurative abstraction following the death of his father Hiroshi.  Cf. e.g. Mount Holyoke College Art Museum, MH 1964.137.Q.RII ("German Girl"), Brooklyn Museum, 54.111 ("No. 5", female head), LACMA M.2000.105.131 ("No. 12", nude).
