Teisai Senchô (act. c. 1827-1850)

The oiran (high-ranking courtesan) Tamagawa from the Maru-Ebiya house standing beside her desk, in splendid garb and lavish headdress. She is holding a sheet of paper inscribed by herself. The cartouche shows a view of a landscape near Matsuchiyama.

Excellent impression in excellent, fresh colours. Slightly trimmed. Some soothed creases and folds (smoothed), a few small holes along the top margin. Overall in very nice condition.

A very rare sheet by this excellent artist and pupil of Keisai Eisen. So far no other copy traceable. Other prints from this magnificent series in the collections of the MFA Boston and the MAK Vienna.
