Watanabe (Yôsai) Nobukazu (1872-1944)

Dressed in splendid kimonos, five elegant ladies are busy arranging flowers in vases for an ikebana show; an impressive folding screen with a painting of Mt. Fuji provides a beautiful background.

Title: Onna reishiki - shiki no Seika/Ikebana (Ladies‘ manners – Ikebana for the four seasons)

Signature: Yôsai Nobukazu hitsu

Publisher: Takekawa Seikichi (Seieidô)

Date: Meiji 26 (1893)

Size: Oban triptych, 35,5 x 70 cm

Fine impression and colour, with embossing and burnishing. The three sheets a little bit trimmed on top and sides, not glued together and retaining old album backing. A few small printer’s stains. Overall excellent condition.

A rare triptych showing interesting ikebana vessels and arrangements. Noteworthy also the depiction of a Wadokei (or Yagura-dokei), a rare Japanese Edo period clock.
