Reigle Newland/Perrée/Schaap, Crows, Cranes and Camellias, The natural world of Ohara Koson 1877-1945, Leiden/Boston 2010, K 44.23. (size given as aiban).

It is worthwile to compare this print with Rijksmuseum Amsterdam No. RP-P-2005-478 and Freer Sackler, Robert O. Muller Collection, No. S2003.8.2033 – both have black borders, all around margins and are considerably wider. Daikokuya’s early prints mostly have small or no margins, whereas prints of later editions often have broad margins and black borders.
But most striking is that there are some remarkable differences in printing details and impression. Moreover the printing quality in the present print is better, with more fine details. This leads us to the conclusion that the present print is from an earlier edition than the two prints compared, which are possibly from new editions made after the 1923 earthquake.
