Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769-1825)
Two beauties with the attributes of courtiers, as part of the entourage of a travelling daimyo, shown in a spring landscape with yellow flowering mountain roses are wading through a small river. Part of a multipiece series, a mitate (parody) scene. It probably shows the crossing of the Ide Tamagawa (Ide Jewel River) by Ariwara no Narihira.

Very nice impression, very nice fresh colours, printed on very good paper, not trimmed. Weak spot at lower part, margins a little bit soiled and worn, a few smaller wormholes at upper margin, neatly restored, otherwise very good condition. Rare item.
