Utagawa Kunisada II (Kunimasa III, Toyokuni IV) (1823-1880)

A Buddhist mendicant monk standing by the sea coast next to a signpost indicating the places Akashi and Suma. Two boys in front of a big anchor are gesturing towards him. A flight of chidori (plovers) is rising to the sky.

Very good impression with brilliant colours, with embossing and metal pigment (oxidized). Old album backing with slightly trimmed margins. Minor printing smudges, else very good condition.
This Genji series is generally considered as one of Utagawa Kunisada II’s best artistic works.
